    Biography
    Born in Bangli, Bali on April 4th, 1976, Kun is a contemporary artist who widely shows his works in his homegrown country, Indonesia as well as further afield in the US, Taiwan and Australia. He is a proud reciepient of several major art awards in Indonesia. In 2013, Kun joined the program of visiting artist / scholar and awarded the Visiting Scholar Award from Gwen Frostic School of Art, Western Michigan University, USA, US. Kun is also an Associate Professor at Faculty of Visual Art and Design of Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI Denpasar).

    Art Writing
    Kun wrote articles for variety of art and culture issues in national media, such as Kompas, Tempo, Media Indonesia, Suara Merdeka, Jawa Post-Radar Bali and Bali Post. He did a research on the data of Balinese painting in the 1930s in several cities in the Netherlands, such as Leiden, Harlem, and Amsterdam (2015). Kun also becomes the curator of art exhibitions for many galleries, such as the National Gallery in Jakarta, Art 1 (Mondecor) Gallery, Tonyraka Art Gallery, Gajah Art Gallery (Singapore), Sudakara Art Space, Syang Art Gallery, Kendra Art Space, etc. Since 2016 He has been assigned to the editor of the national journal of Arts & Culture, Mudra ISI Denpasar.
    He won Research, Creative and Desimination Arts Program from Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Republic of Indonesia (2017 and 2018); Doctoral Dissertation research grant from the Ministry of National Education (2014), and research grants of P3SWOT, International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of National Education (2007). Writing books: “Pita Prada: The Golden Creativity” together with Agus Darmawan T and Jean Couteau (2009), ‘Gigih Wiyono”: Diva Sri Migrasi with M. Dwi Marianto (2008), and Nalar Rupa Perupa (2007).

    Dr. I Wayan ‘Kun’ Adnyana es un influyente artista, teórico del arte y académico balinés, cuyo trabajo explora los límites entre la tradición y el arte contemporáneo. Nacido el 4 de abril de 1976 en Bangli, Bali, Kun creció en un entorno donde la expresión artística y los valores espirituales están profundamente arraigados en la vida cotidiana. Este rico bagaje cultural constituye la base de su práctica artística, que combina la iconografía balinesa y el lenguaje visual contemporáneo.

    Kun ha demostrado ser un artista versátil con atractivo internacional. Su obra se ha exhibido en Indonesia y en todo el mundo, incluidos Estados Unidos, Taiwán y Australia. Ha ganado varios premios de arte prestigiosos en Indonesia, lo que subraya su posición como artista líder en la región.

    Además de su arte, Kun Adnyana también es un académico respetado. Obtuvo su Maestría en Estudios de Arte (M.Sn) y posteriormente un Doctorado en Estudios de Arte del Programa de Posgrado del Instituto Indonesio de las Artes (ISI) en Yogyakarta. Su investigación se centra en la dinámica entre el arte tradicional y contemporáneo en el sudeste asiático, con especial atención a la identidad cultural de Bali en un mundo globalizado.

    Su carrera académica lo ha llevado a prestigiosas instituciones como la Escuela de Arte Gwen Frostic de la Universidad de Western Michigan, donde fue galardonado con el Premio Académico Visitante en 2013. Actualmente es profesor asociado en la Facultad de Bellas Artes y Diseño del Instituto Indonesio de Artes en Denpasar (ISI Denpasar), donde inspira y orienta a jóvenes artistas e investigadores.

    A través de su trabajo como artista, profesor e investigador, Kun Adnyana continúa innovando y posicionando el arte balinés dentro de la escena artística global más amplia. Su obra es un diálogo entre el pasado y el futuro, en el que se redescubre la esencia de la cultura balinesa de una manera nueva y significativa.
