Jules Dupré (1811-1889) was a French painter. He was one of the leading figures of the Barbizon school, a group of landscape painters among whom fellow landscape painters such as Théodore Rousseau and Constant Troyon.
Dupré studied under Jean-Michel Diébolt, who encouraged his interest in painting en plein air with a particular focus on depicting changing weather and light conditions.
He exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1831, and three years later was awarded a second-class medal. In the same year he came to England, where he was impressed by the genius of Constable. From then on he learned how to express movement in nature.
Dupré's colour is sonorous and resonant. He showed preference for using dramatic sunset effects and stormy skies and seas as the subjects of his paintings.
Work of Dupré can be found in many famous museums like the Louvre, Museum of Fine Arts - Boston, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Hermitage in St Peterburg.

Jules Dupré fue un pintor francés, uno de los miembros principales de la escuela de paisajistas de Barbizon y amigo de sus compañeros paisajistas Théodore Rousseau y Constant Troyon. Estudió con Jean-Michel Diébolt, quien alentó su interés por la pintura al aire libre con un enfoque particular en representar el clima cambiante y las condiciones de luz. Expuso por primera vez en el Salón en 1831 y tres años más tarde recibió una medalla de segunda clase. En el mismo año llegó a Inglaterra, donde quedó impresionado por el genio de Constable. A partir de entonces aprendió a expresar el movimiento en la naturaleza. El color de Dupré es sonoro y resonante. Mostró preferencia por utilizar efectos de puesta de sol dramáticos y cielos y mares tormentosos como temas de sus pinturas. La obra de Dupré se encuentra en muchos museos famosos bajo los cuales: el Louvre, el Museo de Bellas Artes de Boston, los Museos de Bellas Artes de San Francisco, el Hermitage del Estado en St Peterburg.
