- Sobre el artistaJacob Gillig nació alrededor de 1636. Fue un pintor holandés de bodegones del Siglo de Oro. Aunque nació y murió en Utrecht, nunca se registró como maestro en el Gremio de Pintores de Utrecht. En cambio, trabajó como comerciante y luego como director de prisión. No empezó a pintar hasta los veinte años y el tema de su preferencia fue la representación de peces, aunque aún existen algunos retratos de su mano. Se dice que posiblemente fue influenciado por el mercado de pescado, que estaba ubicado al lado de la prisión de la ciudad de Utrecht. Gillig falleció en 1701, dejando atrás una obra muy respetada.
