    Gustave Mascart (1834-1914) – A beautiful spring day
    Gustave Mascart was a French painter and student of the widely traveled naval painter Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager (1814-1879), best known in his life for his navies with warships. Mascart focused on the realistic cityscape. Paris and the periphery in particular were featured in his oeuvre. He can be considered one of the pioneers of what has come to be called “Montmartre painters”, with his views of Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge, Place Pigalle, et cetera. Mascart has also painted cityscapes in other places, including in: Amsterdam (the Montelbaanstoren), Como, Ghent, Ostend and also the windmills of Kinderdijk.

    Gustave Mascart (8 de marzo de 1834 - 1914) fue un pintor francés, nacido en Valenciennes. Estudió con el pintor marino Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager, conocido por sus pinturas de barcos de guerra. Mascart, sin embargo, se dedicó a realizar paisajes urbanos realistas, con especial atención a París y sus alrededores.

    Se le considera un pionero de los "pintores de Montmartre" y a menudo capturó escenas de Montmartre, el Moulin Rouge y la Place Pigalle. Además de escenas parisinas, Mascart también pintó paisajes urbanos de ciudades como Ámsterdam, Gante, Ostende y Como, así como los molinos de viento de Kinderdijk.

    Mascart expuso regularmente sus obras en el Salón de París y sus cuadros fueron subastados varias veces, lo que demuestra su atractivo perdurable.
